Med sol, flatt hav, knallblå himmel og et snev av plussgrader lastet vi bilene og dro til påskelandet. Her var alle klisjene tilstede, utenom ski og appelsiner. På snø er kajakkene kjempemessige pulker. Da kan man pakke med seg mye annet godt og nyttig. Lavvo, vedsekker, grillkull, vaffeljern og steketakke sikret forsyningene.

Å padle i en påskeklisje gjør noe med deg. Øyekroken blir våt og ord blir fattige. Tranesvågen ligger speilblank. I Risøyhamn hilser Hurtigruta farvel til Andøya og legger ut i renna. På brua står en kaptein med ekte gull i stripen og vi padler utover for å hilse på. Turistene må jo også ha få noe fint å ta bilde av.

Det ble to dager med padling i Tranesvågen, Risøyrenna og Gavelfjorden. To dager med flatt hav. Gnistrende sol. Blå himmel og blåere hav som gikk i ett! Har var det bare å nyte øyeblikket.

Jørg, Mattia and Meike

Jørg, Mattia and Meike at the whale safari joined us for a paddle this afternoon.

Andøy padleklubb og Odd Gunnar Sjåfjell med Padlebua har gjennmført årets første Vått kort-kurs. Camilla og Fredrik Fongen var instruktører. “Action Janne” på bildet over er en av dem som fikk godt utbytte av kurset. Flere bilder kommer opp tirsdag.

Break at Risøya

Risøyrenna is a part of the Coastal Express’ fairway to Tromsø or Stokmarknes. It was a very nice paddle, starting at the harbour in Åse.

I went out at low tide and headed north. Åse river lured and I gave it a try, but it was to shallow and I had to return just before the bridge. Later in the afternoon I gave it a try on high tide and had success. Managed to go under the bridge and a little bit up in the river.

At Laneskog I meet a pack of swans. Counted twelve of them. Approaching Risøya I saw a couple of gray seals suntanning on some rocks close to the stony beach.

This is a wildlife reserve with a very rich bird life. You could also spot seals, but they are shy so binoculars are a must if you want to study them.

I did go on shore three places. I think it was at Slåtterøya, Sandøyra and Tennskagen. There were remains of old buildings there. Probably from the time when they built the channel. Now the islets were taken over by gulls.

I also payed a visit to Risøyhamn harbor. The scenery here, with old hoses, piers and quays, is amazing and well worth a visit.

Me and Odd Arne in Støa

From the beach at Andenes down to Støa in Merket. A nice paddle with Odd Arne. Flat sea and a lot of birds. We also spotted a harbour seal. Went trough the canal in Sløyken. There were some northern wind and waves, so we had a nice surf.
